Honduras and the EU hold second VPA negotiation session

The second VPA negotiation session between Honduras and the EU took place in Brussels on 3 October. The Honduras Delegation comprised not only government officials but also representatives from the private sector, forest cooperatives and civil society, all of whom participated actively.

The fruitful and open discussions revolved around the Honduran negotiation structure, the scope for timber products and market destinations, and draft principles for the legality definition. In addition, representatives from civil society presented their expectations and recommendations for the VPA, and the Honduras Delegation presented the decision of indigenous people on the VPA negotiations. Both presentations are reproduced in the aide memoire of the negotiations.

At the conclusion of the session, the two parties updated the roadmap to reflect the outcome of the discussions and the upcoming presidential elections in Honduras. The aide-memoire and the updated VPA roadmap can be found here.
