EU launches Map of FLEGT projects

The European Union launched on 1 December the Map of FLEGT projects, an interactive tool for sharing information and coordinating action in support of the EU FLEGT Action Plan

The Map of FLEGT projects has information on past and ongoing FLEGT projects around the world. Users can search for projects by applying different filters including country, theme and organisation and find detailed information on project objectives, progress, budgets and participants, as well as stories, photos and videos.

“With the Map we can visualise FLEGT projects on a global scale, all in one place, and with a click find information at the country and local levels,” said David Sanmiguel-Esteban of the European Commission. “What’s more, the information is coming straight from organisations. This collaborative tool will help organisations share their FLEGT experiences with partners and provide greater access to project information.”

Today, the Map includes some 100 FLEGT projects funded by the European Union, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), Germany’s corporation for international cooperation (GIZ), and other organisations. This number is growing as more FLEGT organisations add their projects.

“We designed the FLEGT Map to be accessible and flexible,” said Andreu Abuín of the EU FLEGT Facility, which developed and hosts the Map. “Organisations can customise it to profile their own projects and then embed the Map in any website to share their project information with viewers around the world.”

The Map is already embedded in the websites of the European Commission, FAO, Capacity4dev and the EU FLEGT Facility
