Countdown to the EU Timber Regulation

On 3 March 2013, the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) comes into force to stop the distribution of illegally logged timber in the European Union.

Under the EUTR, placing illegally harvested timber and products derived from such timber on the EU market is forbidden. This applies to timber and timber products being placed for the first time on the EU market.

The European Commission has launched a site with full information on the EUTR. The EU FLEGT Facility has also produced a useful questions and answers on this issue.
