Congolese forestry ministry officials continue coordination meetings with officials from other departments
Officials from the Congo forestry ministry are continuing their interministerial meetings at the departmental level on the roles and responsibilities of decentralised authorities, as the country moves forward with implementing its VPA. Three meetings were held in the central and northern parts of the Republic of the Congo in early September with 63 officials participating.
Participants were informed of recent developments in implementing the Congo–EU VPA and their role in the implementation of the national timber legality assurance system. The meeting organisers highlighted the need to build upon existing interministerial cooperation to stop illegal logging.
Similar meetings were held in the south of the country and among the directorates general of the ministries in Brazzaville earlier this year.
