EFI seeks a Private Sector Expert

The European Forest Institute (EFI) is seeking a Private Sector Expert for the EU FLEGT Facility, based at EFI’s Kuala Lumpur project office in Malaysia.

The Expert will provide support and guidance to private sector actors, in particular small-scale entities, and their supporters to engage and benefit from FLEGT processes. The Expert will work closely with stakeholders in Asian countries including governments, forest operators and civil society, as well as the European Commission, EU Delegations, EU Member States.

The Expert will focus on:

  • Build capacity of small-scale private sector actors and supporters for advocating their integration into legal and sustainable supply chains, building on EFI’s current work with the small-scale and informal forest sector in the greater Mekong sub-region.
  • Incorporate gender components in SME activities to facilitate mainstreaming of gender issues starting at local level.
  • Analyse and capture lessons learnt from past and future capacity building activities, and communicate experience gathered into the FLEGT processes in these and other countries.
  • Support the formation of SME platforms at the country level and advocate the upscaling of experience gathered in studies, pilots and other activities into national programmes in support of small scale entities and upcoming donor support.
  • Coordinate, atune and synergize with related initiatives working globally on SMEs.
  • Serve as private sector focal point within the EU FLEGT Facility and towards donors.
  • Work in close collaboration with the EU FLEGT Facility experts, consultants and others working on private sector support, good governance and technical elements of timber legality.
