The first Stakeholder Consultation meeting held on 21 March focused on "options and best practices for the use and recognition of third party organizations entrusted with certain responsibilities in the framework of EUTR legislation".

The goals of the second meeting are:

• To present the project and its preliminary outcomes, particularly focusing on the various options and solutions for due diligence systems according to the requirements of the EUTR
• To provide a platform for comments and suggestions.

DG Environment of the European Commission has contracted the European Forest Institute (EFI) to carry out the " Support study for the Development of the Non-legislative Acts as Provided for in the EU Timber Regulation." This study aims to identify the most efficient ways to fulfill the requirements of the EUTR with respect to risk assessment and risk management procedures as well as the procedures for recognition of monitoring organizations, particularly taking into account relevant best practices. The contract was awarded to EFI who undertakes the assignment with two of its Associate Members, University of Padova (Italy) and Indufor Oy (Finland).
