Peer Review of Needs Assessment for EU China Joint Training Course for FLEGT
The Peer Review meeting, involving 15 participants from government agencies, universities and other related organizations was held on 16 September at the People's University of China (Renmin University).
The Needs Assessment Study, contracted by EFI's EU FLEGT Asia Regional Funding (FLEGT Asia) to the Renmin University had targeted key stakeholders who would be affected by the FLEGT Action Plan and showed that only a few Chinese enterprises are prepared with appropriate approaches to meet with the new market requirements. The representative of the Chinese State Forest Administration emphasized the importance of training and outreach, not only to enterprises, but also to industry associations, government departments, research institutions and international organizations working in China. She welcomed such analyses and studies of international forest products policy trends and developments, so as to help Chinese enterprises respond appropriately to reduce trading risk and business losses. An integrated sector-wide mechanism for communications and consultation for awareness-raising and advocacy of green procurement was also proposed.
