Second Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on EU Timber Regulation

The meeting will take place at the Jacques Delors building in Brussels on April 28. Link to further information and to the project website can be found here.

The second Stakeholder Consultation meeting aims to discuss best options for risk assessment and risk mitigation procedures in the framework of EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) legislation. As registration is essential in order to get access to the building, please kindly register no later than 19 April 2011.

The first Stakeholder Consultation meeting held on 21 March focused on "options and best practices for the use and recognition of third party organizations entrusted with certain responsibilities in the framework of EUTR legislation". 

The goals of the second meeting are:

• To present the project and its preliminary outcomes, particularly focusing on the various options and solutions for due diligence systems according to the requirements of the EUTR
• To provide a platform for comments and suggestions.

DG Environment of the European Commission has contracted the European Forest Institute (EFI) to carry out the " Support study for the Development of the Non-legislative Acts as Provided for in the EU Timber Regulation." This study aims to identify the most efficient ways to fulfill the requirements of the EUTR with respect to risk assessment and risk management procedures as well as the procedures for recognition of monitoring organizations, particularly taking into account relevant best practices. The contract was awarded to EFI who undertakes the assignment with two of its Associate Members, University of Padova (Italy) and Indufor Oy (Finland).
