Liberia welcomes service providers to help with VPA implementation
Two new service providers have been selected to support Liberia in implementing its VPA. Consulting firm HTSPE will establish and operate a VPA Support Unit to strengthen the capacities of Liberian institutions and stakeholders so they can fulfil their responsibilities as set out in the VPA, and ensure the efficient and effective coordination of all VPA actors.
Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) will build and manage on an interim basis the Liberia Verification Department within the Forest Development Authority. This new department will manage LiberFor, the existing chain of custody system, and develop and install systems for verifying operator compliance with the legality definition.
Both service providers are setting up their offices in Liberia. These contracts are part of the support package developed by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the EU to meet capacity-building needs identified with Liberia after the conclusion of the VPA negotiations.
