Other Market Policies

In addition to working at the European level, European Member States are establishing a number of national policies and initiatives in support of the FLEGT approach. These activities also focus on the development of markets for demonstrably legal and sustainable timber in areas that are outside the responsibilities of the European Commission, for example Government procurement. Furthermore, the private sector has started to introduce policies aiming at responsible purchasing, and timber operators supplying the market are increasingly investing in certification schemes to ensure that they only sell legal and sustainable wood.

For a complete picture of the activities of EU Member States with respect to global forestry issues, we would recommend checking their individual environment and development Ministry websites.
