Cameroon to focus on ‘certificate of legality’ in 2013

At the third meeting of the Joint Implementation Committee in Yaoundé in late November, the EU and Cameroon evaluated the progress of VPA implementation and agreed on priorities for this year. In 2013, the ‘certificate of legality' will remain the focus in developing Cameroon's timber legality assurance system.

The ‘certificate of legality' assesses legal compliance at the company level and is a critical requirement for FLEGT licences for timber shipments to the EU. It will become compulsory for all operators in Cameroon's forest sector from 2014.
