ASEAN member states increase cooperation on FLEG

The ASEAN Regional Knowledge Network on Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (ARKN-FLEG), an expert network supporting the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF), met in Vientiane, Laos, on 21 October 2014. They took stock of the network's achievements concerning regional cooperation and its contribution to ASEAN's workplan on FLEG 2008-2015, that includes capacity building of member states.

Representatives from nine ASEAN member states participated with support from experts at the EU FLEGT Facility and the German agency for international cooperation (GIZ).

ASEAN decided to convene the expert network once again after a five-year hiatus. The network agreed to test reporting by each member state on FLEG progress through pilot projects in Indonesia and Vietnam, applying the draft 'Manual for assessing FLEG implementation in ASEAN member states' developed by the network.
