Inauguration: EFI’s EU FLEGT Asia China Office
The new European Forest Institute's EU FLEGT Asia China Joint Project Office opened on 14 November, in Beijing, in a private ceremony.
Performed by officials from the European Union's Directorate General for Environment, and the Chinese State Forest Administration, representatives of the Renmin University, the Chinese Academy of Forestry, UK DFID and FLEGT Asia also attended the opening event.
Through FLEGT Asia, the European Forest Institute (EFI) supports the EU-China Dialogue under a Bilateral Coordination Mechanism (BCM) on FLEG to reduce illegal logging and its associated trade, and to seek ways to promote trade from legal and sustainable forests. The establishment of EFI's EU FLEGT Asia China Joint Project Office in Beijing, facilitates BCM workplan implementation in China.
