The Republic of Congo and the EU completed the ratification of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement
The Republic of Congo and the EU completed the ratification of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on 19 February 2013. The Agreement entered into force on 1 March 2013.
After the agreement was signed in May 2010, procedures have been assessed and improved to pave the way for full implementation of the bilateral agreement. The new procedures are part of improved practices that the Republic of the Congo has introduced as part of its Voluntary Partnership Agreement with the EU. The Republic of Congo is one of the five countries in the Central Africa negotiating or implementing a VPA in an effort to reduce illegal logging and improve forest governance in the region.
