Joint Implementation Committee agrees on work plans for implementing the VPA in Congo
The first meeting of the Joint Implementation Committee of the Republic of the Congo and the EU took place on 30 April, following technical discussions.
Topics covered included institutional arrangements and rules concerning the functioning of the Committee and annual reporting, the development of the national legality assurance system, the legal reform process and work plans for VPA implementation.
Committee members agreed on a detailed work plan for 2013 and on the key milestones until 2015. The aide memoire and work plan are available on the Congo FLEGT VPA website.
The VPA team from EFI's EU FLEGT Facility supported preparations for the Committee meeting both directly and through an in-country facilitator. The facilitator has been working closely with the Ministry of Forestry and other stakeholders in multiple areas, including on developing timetables for VPA implementation.
The second meeting of the Joint Implementation Committee is scheduled for October 2013.
